May brings us zingy fruits and vegetables, fancy food photography, a look forward to The Big Lunch, oh and have we mentioned we’ve been short listed for an award?...
We’re focusing on the stronger flavours that are in season this month – the ones that often people are a bit wary of or have more of an acquired taste! In May we have gooseberries, chicory and radishes and rather than give you a gooseberry fool recipe or tell you to throw some radishes in a salad we have some different ideas to get you eating these sharp flavours:
We were delighted recently to discover that we had made the short list of 3 for the Wakefield Retail Awards in the Best Home and Garden Retailer category! We’ll find out whether we’ve won at the awards dinner on 17th May – fingers crossed! You may also be interested to know that the finalists in the Food category are Time Bakery, Ruby Lou’s and The Black Olive. The full list of finalists is here
For those who like their food with an artistic twist you may be interested in the Food Photographer of the Year Awards. The winner and finalists have just been announced and there are some pretty impressive images, ranging from the highly stylised or simply delicious. You can see the finalists here
Looking forward to next month, The Big Lunch is taking place on 1st June. It was started by The Eden Project in 2009 and the idea is to ‘get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually on the first Sunday in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun’. Are there any local events near you or would you like to organise one? Let us know and we’ll share it on our website and social media. We’re already aware of an event at Outwood Park. You can find more details about The Big Lunch here.
Wish us luck for those awards!
